[ It's the middle of the night, he can't sleep for the needling pain that's still lingering in his back, and he's been thinking about things again. Whether Shulk's awake or not, he'll see this eventually, right? ]
<shulk> (whens this dated btw?)
Joseph?
is everything okay?
<clackers> (late 17th - early 18th maybe?)
[ dodging those questions like he's about to win a gold medal for it, hell yeah. ]
<shulk> (roger that!! o7)
oh
what kind of questions? ill answer the best i can
<clackers>
>nobdyssx toldm me yet
<shulk>
i like to assume they go home
but sometimes people who disappear and come back, they dont have any memory of disappearing, or returning home if they did at all.
i dont know what that means
<clackers>
[ It's disappointing, but he should have expected that much. If there's one thing that Joseph knows about Ryslig, it's that it's not a place that deals in absolutes. ]
>alll, right
>igues that answrsthattg
<shulk>
But the curious aren't satisfied with blissful unawareness.]
it really doesnt.
there's just not more to tell at this point in time. maybe someday we'll know for certain where they go
just hold on to the hope theyre okay
<clackers>
[ Holding out hope won't be enough, and Joseph's done with holding punches when it comes to why. ]
>hhe wontbe okay
>hes nevfvrgoing t be okky
>notherrre nd not thefr
<shulk>
Joseph...does something happen to him back home?
if he knows about it, he can change his fate. maybe coming here with you, itll save him
<clackers>
>hedies
>hegrts crushesd and he dos itbceaus offv me
>idojnt evn needdd what he dis foranymre
<shulk>
or...did you already know?
[For someone who's been a big advocate of the disappeared being fortunate, that being home is best, it makes it hard for Shulk to justify anything here. Time for a different approach.]
Joseph, you do believe people can change their fates, dont you?
<clackers>
>iknew
>itoldhhim
>bthe cant chageanytgng ifhes not goig toremebr
<shulk>
there has to be some good that can come from being here. and i guess, even if he...
you got to see him again. despite everything, you got to see him one more time
<clackers>
[ And, for how long Joseph leaves it, it would appear that he's ended the conversation.
But then, that last line came up. ]
<clackers>
>thanks
>thankyou
<shulk> /lays down
He's a bit bleary-eyed, when the last message pops up.]
youre welcome
get some rest, Joseph
<clackers> more death for the death god
[ This place was ruining him, but he saw him again. The last words that he'd heard from Caesar were no longer shouted at him in an argument, spoken from a place of vitriol and catalyzed by his own callousness. It lessens the searing pain in his back a little.
Perhaps the chance that he might have remembered might have even made it all worth it. ]
